Centre for Homelessness and Inclusion Health contributes to advice briefing for new Scottish Government

The Centre for Homelessness and Inclusion Health (CHIH) has supported the production of a new advice briefing which urges the incoming Scottish Government to place joint working at the centre of its response to Scotland’s housing and homelessness emergency.

Compiled by the Everyone Home Collective, a coalition of frontline services, the national lived experience platform, and academic partners, the briefing welcomes the First Minister’s commitment to a cross-government approach, saying it presents a genuine opportunity to drive lasting progress on homelessness if backed by decisive action within the Government’s first 100 days.

In its expert advice, 'Protect, Scale, Shift', the coalition argues that sustained reductions in homelessness will only come through strong joined-up leadership nationally and locally, alongside action to tackle the root causes of poverty and Scotland’s chronic shortage of affordable housing.

The briefing draws on research conducted by CHIH staff and several of the Centre’s academic partners. It calls for housing justice to become a central priority for the new administration, with stronger accountability, accelerated delivery of social housing, and improved coordination across housing, health, social care, and justice services.

The recommendations reflect CHIH’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based policy and collaborative approaches that improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity across Scotland.

The CHIH is a collaborative network of academics, clinicians, and practitioners – representing a wide range of sectors and disciplinary backgrounds – who share expertise and commitment to help resolve inequalities affecting some of society’s most marginalised people.
