Nursing Studies lecturer honoured by RCSI Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery

Dr Leah Macaden, Senior Lecturer in Nursing Studies, has been awarded a Fellowship Ad Eundem by the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

The honour was conferred at the Faculty’s annual ceremony in Dublin on 8 December 2025, where Dr Macaden was one of ten recipients from around the world to receive the Fellowship.

The Fellowship Ad Eundem is a prestigious distinction awarded in recognition of outstanding professional achievement, exceptional leadership, and significant contributions to the advancement of nursing, midwifery, or related sciences. It also recognises individuals whose work has had a positive impact on health, society, and the wider profession.

Recipients are nominated by the Board of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery and undergo a rigorous review process, with final ratification by the RCSI Surgery and Postgraduate Faculties Board.

Earlier in 2025, Dr Macaden was also named Supervisor of the Year at the University of Edinburgh Students’ Association Teaching Awards, an award reflecting her exceptional support, mentorship and dedication to postgraduate research students. In a category with nearly 1,700 nominations, she was praised by students for her thoughtful guidance, responsiveness, and encouragement. Dr Macaden’s dual recognition highlights her commitment to excellence in both academic leadership and student support.
