MHAS is an emergency mental health assessment service. This is a nurse led team based at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. The ultimate resort in an emergency is to encourage the person to self-refer to the Emergency Admission Service at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. You can be seen at their 24-hour service at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. They also see patients out of hours at the Royal Infirmary by referral from the Emergency Department or the out-of hours GP Service. Penumbra Penumbra is a Scotland based mental health and wellbeing support centre. They offer 1:1 support for individuals who self-harm. This a short term weekly support which lasts for 12 weeks. Their crisis centre offers 24/7 support via email and telephone if the individual feels that they are in crisis.
