Nursing Studies Professor receives UK Chief Nursing Officers' Lifetime Achievement Award

Professor Tonks Fawcett, Professor of Student Learning (Nurse Education) at the University of Edinburgh, has been recognised with the prestigious UK Chief Nursing Officers' Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Nursing Times Awards.

The 2026 Nursing Times Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 29 October 2026, celebrated excellence, innovation and outstanding contributions across the nursing and midwifery professions.

A particular highlight was the recognition of Professor Tonks Fawcett from Nursing Studies who received the prestigious UK Chief Nursing Officers’ Award for Lifetime Achievement. This distinguished accolade celebrates her significant contribution to nursing throughout her career, recognising her dedication to nursing education, research, leadership and the development of future generations of nurses.

Reflecting on the recognition, Tonks expressed gratitude to the students, colleagues, mentors and fellow educators who have supported her career.

Although this award may have my name on it, I certainly don't see it as an individual achievement. I see it as recognition of the many students, colleagues, mentors and fellow educators who have been part of my journey. I owe so much to them and thank them all from my heart.

The School of Health in Social Science congratulates Tonks on this outstanding achievement and well-deserved recognition of an exceptional career and lasting impact on the nursing profession.
