Knowledge Exchange Event: Fostering Dialogue Across Racial Differences

Conversations about race at universities can sometimes feel performative, one-sided, surface-level, or even invalidating. To address this problem, we have piloted what we named interracial culture circles with a group of undergraduate students. This is a participatory method inspired by Freire to enable conversations on how racialisation and other unjust social structures and dynamics affect students' experiences at university.

The students became co-investigators of their own experiences, and by the end of our 8 sessions, they engaged in a photovoice activity, capturing their experiences as students in the University and in the culture circles.

At this event we will:

  • Share key findings and insights from the project
  • Share the project´s outputs
  • Showcase students’ photovoice creations in a gallery format
  • Invite your written responses to the photovoice gallery
  • Provide tea, coffee, cake and fruits

The event will begin with a presentation about the project and its main results and outputs, which we will make available to you. From 11:00 onwards, we will have space to interact with the gallery showcase (catering included!). You can stay as long as you like, up to 1:00 PM.

Please let us know if you'd like to attend via the booking form.
