Our MSc Advanced Nursing programme is designed with career prospects in mind, allowing students the flexibility to shape their programme depending on whether they would like to develop their careers further in clinical practice, education, research or leadership. The programme draws on current theory, practice, research and innovation in nursing, health and social care practice to develop a critical understanding of contemporary health care. All MSc Advanced Nursing students complete a dissertation and an individual literature review/research proposal dissertation – students work individually with a member of staff as a supervisor to develop a critical literature review and research proposal on a topic of their choice.

The programme is suitable for nurses who are registered in any branch of the profession to practice in their own country and who want to critically examine the ways that evidence-based research, theory and knowledge can advance nursing in the global context. The programme is suitable for people in various stages of their careers: for nurses who want to study immediately following their undergraduate degree and others who want to return to study at a much more senior stage. Our programme is designed to be relevant to all nurses, regardless of their age and stage. We welcome nurses from the UK and internationally and one of the strengths of our programme is inter-cultural learning.  The degree also provides an excellent foundation for further postgraduate research, or to advance their professional career.

Beyond the programme 

This course will facilitate career progression for those working in any branch of Nursing to develop advanced nursing knowledge, skills and understanding. All students will develop research skills to enable them to apply for progression to doctoral level study upon successful completion of the programme. In addition, students taking a specific pathway will develop specialist skills in leadership, education and clinical research to progress careers in these areas.
