Athena SWAN Silver Award 2017

The School of Health in Social Science is delighted to announce that we have received a Silver Award in recognition of our work in progressing gender equality in the School. Since our Bronze Award in 2013, we have worked hard to improve the working culture in the School, progress students into academia and to advance careers for all staff. Our Silver Award recognises the development of gender equality in the School and we are now working together to implement the initiatives set out in our Action Plan.

Athena SWAN Bronze Award 2013

The Equality Challenge Unit's (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter has been developed to encourage and recognise commitment to combating this underrepresentation and advancing the careers of women in STEMM research and academia. The School was commended for in a range of areas in addition to the high appraisal take-up, sabbatical planning and senior committee roles being rotated. As part of the ongoing process, the School has developed a three-year action plan to move forward with current initiatives and to continue its work to address challenges not only for women within science, but all staff irrespective of gender.
