Man Down

Suicide is a complicated act that breaches boundaries between self and other, body and mind, individual and society. To help explore this complexity, the event centres around a compelling new film by butoh dance artist Paul Michael Henry, inspired by cutting-edge sociological research and insights from feminist performance history.

Following the screening, researchers Amy Chandler (sociology) and Lucy Weir (art history) will be joined by other experts in suicide, mental health and gender to lead an interactive discussion with the audience. We will reflect on suicide in Scotland, and how gender and society might shape experiences of suicide in unique ways in different areas of the country.

The event will be of interest to anyone affected by suicide in Scotland, whether in their personal or professional lives.

This event is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science. For more information please visit https://esrc.ukri.org/public-engagement/festival-of-social-science/ or follow #esrcfestival
