3 students have had abstracts accepted for the June ICN Congress 2019 to be held in Singapore. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) Congress 2019 Singapore is an international gathering which will explore how nurses work to achieve universal access to health. Image Gearóid Gearóid's paper at the ICN will present a policy review of 8 different English-speaking regions, of their nursing policy in addressing mental health patients physical health needs. His paper is linked to his PhD where he's examining how mental health nurses understand their role in addressing the physical health needs of people with serious mental illness (Schizophrenia, Bipolar). Such patients are currently dying 20 years younger than the rest of the population, have massive rates of co-morbidity including 2-3 times rate of cardiovascular disease, 1 in 5 will develop a form of diabetes and about 4 times the rate of HIV infection. Supervisors: Dr Rosie Stenhouse and Prof Graeme Smith Iris Iris sent in an abstract for the 2019 ICN conference after attending the conference in Barcelona in 2016. Image Her abstract covers HIV-positive drug users' poor adherence to Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART), which is a serious global health issue. Erratic use of HAART can result in incomplete viral suppression, increased Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) transmission, development of drug resistance, and limitation of treatment options. The aim of this research is to explore HIV-positive drug users' experiences of taking antiretroviral medications in Taiwan. Supervisors: Professor Aisha Holloway and Dr Rosie Stenhouse Tantri Tantri's abstract is about women's attendance in the cardiac rehabilitation programme in Indonesia, which is part of her PhD research project under the supervision of Dr. Fiona Cuthill and Professor Aisha Holloway. She submitted her abstract to the conference at the beginning of November after seeing it on twitter. She said, I always wanted to submit an abstract to the ICN conference as it is renowned as the largest international forums for nurses. Image Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has been proven to be effective in reducing mortality and morbidity as well as improving the quality of life of patients with cardiovascular disease. Despite the many benefits of CR, women's attendance rates in the programme are considerably low. Surprisingly, although the knowledge of the women’s lower participation in CR has been established for more than two decades, there is limited evidence on women’s participation in CR from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, the main purpose of the study was to understand the factors that influence women's attendance in a phase two CR programme in Indonesia. We carried out an exploratory research design to answer the research question.
