Pilot study investigating mental health and wellbeing in adolescents. SIGMA UK was developed in parallel with a Belgian study (SIGMA Leuven). The main SIGMA studies aim to assess the mental health and wellbeing of a cohort of adolescents every two-years until adulthood. To assess the feasibility of this large-scale research and gather feedback on the measures used in the Scottish context, we conducted the SIGMA UK pilot study. We invited adolescents aged between 12 and 16 years old, from three different schools in Edinburgh, to fill out a set of online questionnaires on mental health and wellbeing, eating behaviours, identity development, adverse life experiences, attachment relationships, online bullying, aggression, and alcohol abuse. Findings from the SIGMA Pilot study served as the basis to inform the development of other studies, such as EPIC-A and SMILE.
